About this course
This site will be used by 6th grade ELA students and their parents to keep track of course materials and assignments throughout the semester. Students will access course materials here before coming to class the following day. When the student comes into the classroom, they should have a general idea of the day's topic from viewing the course materials. This allows the instructor to begin working more in depth with the objectives of the day. Please make sure you stay on top of viewing course materials and you assignments each day. If you have any questions you can ask those in the Comments and Questions section.
What you will find here
- Course Materials- All needed documents and presentations can be found under the Course Materials link.
- Assignments- Never lose track of what you need to do! Check under Assignments for the most current due dates.
- Resources- The Resources tab will take you to sites the instructor has evaluated and feels are helpful to students.
- Comments and Questions- This link will allow you to ask questions of the instructor, and answers will be posted as questions are received.
About the instructor
Ms. Tannehill has been an ELA teacher at Mill Creek Middle School for 12 years. Students or parents who need to meet with her may do so Monday through Friday from 8:00-9:00 AM. Appointments may also be scheduled by phone for times after 3:00 PM. You may call the front office or use the contact form to schedule an after hours appointment.
This year Ms. Tannehill is piloting a new school initiative known as a "flipped" classroom. This is a new concept to most people, but it is in alignment with Ms. Tannehill's philosophy of making the most of instructional time. |
The best use of the instructor's time is assisting students in working with the concepts we will be leaning this semester. Therefore, the idea of a "flipped" classroom was born. This site will provide preliminary content that students should view before class. When students come to the physical classroom, we will work with the concepts that were first introduced here. This allows the instructor to focus on true instruction in the use of the ideas and concepts while face to face with the students. In the old model, the instructor spent class time lecturing or presenting new materials, and the students were sent home to work on the new concepts without any guidance. We hope this new model will be more effective for our students.
